Overview
- We offer a range of accredited training and bespoke packages, encompassing personal development and that assists a person to prepare for further education, work experience, employment.
- We work with a range of learning abilities and interests, special learning needs and gifted and talented.
- The Willow Collective provide training onsite at our yard and workshop, and under separate negotiation, deliver to other locations in North Wales.
- Our provision offers a unique, flexible alternative, complimentary to mainstream education, whilst providing a nurturing learning environment where students can develop their unique capabilities in a holistic way.
Wood-based programmes
A placement could include work with green wood at Willow Collective - wood straight from trees that the students have helped harvest from local woods and, with a visit to the wood mill at the Willow Collective’s wood yard and workshop, an understanding of processing timber, health and safety and power tool use and working with milled timber.
There is a strong focus on design, form and material in the programmes along with other wellbeing, employability and personal skills that will travel with the learner and provide fertile ground for their life-long learning.
Art-based programmes
These programmes work with nature in terms of materials and inspiration. Skills in planning a project, resilience, following emergent opportunities as they arise and presenting their work.
Wildlife and Society
The importance of wildlife and biodiversity is now recognised as something that must be integrated into every part of our lives. Learning how to plan and execute wildlife surveys, wildlife identification skills and the place of wildlife in society, along with how to engage society with nature, this programme has the possibility to overlap with all the units offered, as indeed do all the others.
Horticultural and Life Skills
Wales’ Natural resources’ value are recognised as vital for future generations’ wellbeing, and horticulture and forestry are two of the most important for the creation of a better future. Through this program learners can learn the skills for this future, whether food growing or improving society’s green spaces, at our sites that show integrated, sustainable and diverse land use, and sustainable farming practices. Propagation of plants, growing fruit and veg, the pride of the harvest are awaiting learners as they learn with a horticulturalist trained in Social Therapeutic Horticulture.
The programmes offer sustainability based learning focused on the connections between learners, the natural environment and natural materials.
